Ghostbusters director Paul Feig recently revealed in a Den of Geek interview that a sequel to the reboot of the Ghostbusters 1984 movie would not be happening. He cited the reason being the film was not able to break-even since it earned $230 million at the box office record and they needed more than $300 million losing $70 million in the process. 

Feig did admit that he loved working with everyone who was involved in the project from the makeup artists down to the actors. However, Sony did not see Ghostbusters as the big hit they originally thought it would be despite a huge opening weekend. In fact, Sony distribution boss Rory Bruer quickly stated he was sure a sequel was happening after the film did well in its opening weekend. Unfortunately, times have changed and it looks like Sony has changed its mind.

The movie is a spin-off of the 1984 movie of the same name. The 1984 Ghostbusters original starred Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson. Ayrkroyd and Ramis also had a hand in writing the script for the movie.

The trailer received mixed reviews especially since when it became known it was an all-female group. It ended up making $46 million in its opening weekend and became the highest earning movie of the tandem of Melissa McCarthy and director Paul Feig. However, a lot of critics and fans said the movie was not funny and there were only a few bright spots in it. 

The Ghostbusters reboot stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Saturday Night Live alumnus Kate McKinnon as the ghostbusting foursome. Actors Chris Hemsworth and Andy Garcia also have supporting roles in the movie as Hemsworth plays Kevin and Garcia plays the city's mayor.
