If Bambi's mother dying is a normal Disney theme, then the new "Cars 3" teaser trailer fits right in. The third installment in the super successful racing franchise has a trailer that has a very dark atmosphere; perhaps too dark for children as seen in the video.

With a darker and grittier animation, Lightning McQueen crashes in the race track and a tag line follows saying everything will change, Gizmodo reported. The car protagonist is voiced by Owen Wilson and is supposed to be a lovely character perfect as children's toy. But this time, the video looks like it came directly from a Zack Snyder movie.

This is a totally different take from its light, fun and family appealing predecessors. The cars in the trailer look more life-like and this could be a good way for capturing the audience's attention, especially that this is one of its least respected franchises, Forbes reported. 

It's just logical for Disney to release a trailer of its new summer big Pixar movie as "Moana" is still making it big in the movie house. Cars 3 will open June 22, 2017.

Pixar has been capitalizing on sequels and spinoffs. One of the best examples that became a big hit is "Finding Dory." It became one of the biggest animated movies in North America with a domestic income of $483 million. Meanwhile, "Finding Nemo" earned a total of $399 million during its theatrical release back in 2003. "Finding Dory" earned a whopping $1 billion worldwide during its release.

Another sequel that made Pixar rake in big cash is "Toy Story 3," which earned a domestic income of $415 million and a total of $1 billion worldwide in 2010. Another notable sequel is "Monsters University," which garnered $744 million worldwide during its release in the summer of 2013. "Toy Story 3" deserves that income since it is really a great film according to critics, but "Monsters University" got a mediocre response from its critics.
