The "Harley Quinn/Birds of Prey" movie is taking a huge leap forward as it hires its official screenwriter. On board the Warner Bros. and DC Films project is Christina Hodson who will be working on the female-driven superhero film. We've got the lowdown on potential spoilers, cast and everything you need to know about the "Harley Quinn/Birds of Prey" movie.

Not a "Harley Quinn" solo movie

Contrary to initial rumors, the supposed "Suicide Squad" spinoff is not a solo outing for Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn. Instead, it is said to focus on a group of female superheroes and villains from the DC Universe. According to The Wrap, Robbie, who is producing the still-unnamed superhero project, fell in love with DC's roster of female characters when she did research on her character and other ones.

Who are the Birds of Prey?

Birds of Prey was originally founded by Black Canary and Oracle. The Huntress was later added and the trio formed the core of the group. The group later expanded to include popular female characters in the DC Universe such as Catwoman, Hawkgirl, Katana, Poison Ivy and Vixen, to name a few.

Harley Quinn, as a member of The Secret Six, appeared several times on the "Birds of Prey" comics and oftentimes foiled the Birds' mission.

"Harley Quinn/Birds of Prey" cast

Aside from Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn, little is known about the cast. However, Jena Malone was rumored to have played Oracle in a deleted scene in "Batman v Superman." According to Gizmodo, a screenshot posted by a Redditor shows Warner Bros. asking fans which characters they would like to see more on "Batman v Superman" marketing. Malone was on the cast list as Barbara Gordon.

In the final theatrical release, viewers never saw Malone in action as Barbara Gordon. Could it be the DC is postponing the character's debut for "Birds of Prey"?

Meanwhile, Black Canary was previously in The CW's "Arrow" and will soon join "Legends of Tomorrow." While the character is played by Katie Cassidy on TV, it's unlikely she will get to play the character on the big screen, the same way Grant Gustin is not in the movie version of "The Flash" as the role has been given to Ezra Miller.
