Chinese Smartphones like Xiamoi's Mi Mix has captured the interests of a lot of its users with its edge-to-edge screen. Now, Apple's iPhone 8 and Samsung's Galaxy S8 will dive into the market capitalizing on the bezel-less display technology.
It's logical for Samsung and Apple to enter the bezel-free design market with facts showing that they are slipping in the sales graphs against their Chinese competitors.
Marking the 10th anniversary of its iPhone, Apple is reportedly planning to bring big change to its new iPhone design. The new iPhone 8, which is expected to be on the market in 2017, is rumored to have a curved, bezel-free display, Indian Express reported.
Meanwhile, after its Galaxy Note 7 battery exploding fiasco, Samsung is reported to rely on its mid-range phones and its new flagship Galaxy S8, which is expected to be released in 2017. The new smartphone will have a bezel-free design. It has a complete edge-to-edge design without front home button.
The Galaxy S8's bezel-free display is based on the OLED technology. It will come with a 90 percent display area ratio, according to Samsung display making unit principal engineer Park Won-sang. There are leaks online revealing that the new phone will come with either a 5.7-inch display or a 6.2-inch display.
On another note, it seems like Samsung and Apple are going on a downward slope when it comes to market shares against their Chinese rivals, Channel Nomics reported. Analyst Gartner reveals that Samsung's third-quarter figures dropped to 71.7 million smartphone shipments, which is a 14.2 decline compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile. Apple's third quarter smartphone shipments went down 6.6 percent to only 43 million.
Chinese giant tech companies like Huawei, BKK Communication Equipment, and Oppo are leading the smartphone market as their shipments and market share went up in this year's third quarter.
