After the past releases of CyanogenMod 14.1 nightly build on selected devices such as Nexus and Galaxy models, the developers announced the new iteration of the Android 7.1 Nougat CM 14.1 series firmware on the OnePlus 3 unit.

Cyanogenmod, which is considered one of the best community-built custom firmwares in the market, released the nightly build for OnePlus 3 ahead of OnePlus 3T's launch.

CM 14.1 is at its earliest stage so users should be aware of possible bugs and some missing features, although Cyanogenmod founder Steve Kondik explained something about CM14.1 nightly build, saying that "Bug reports are OK, but please don't file bugs for missing features since this is all a work in progress. Now is a great time to get involved with the project too- CM is returning to its community-driven roots and there are endless ways to help out."

On the latest update in the Nougat-based CM14.1, the OnePlus 3 will be receiving a ton of improved and customized features such as status bar clock customizations, brightness control from the status bar, a notification counter, double-tap to sleep and a quick pulldown for settings, iPost has learned.

For the installation, The Country Caller reported that OnePlus 3 users need CyanogenMod 14.1 , rooted OnePlus 3 With CWM Recovery installed, CM 14 latest nightly ROM file, and a Gapps ZIP file for Android 7.1.

Users are suggested to back up their phone's data before continuing since this process will erase their existing data. Also, users should make sure that they are charged up to 80 percent as flashing custom ROMs takes lot of energy.

To follow the steps in installing the CyanogenMod 14.1 OnePLus3, The Country Caller provided the following instructions:

Step 1: Download all the files from above and place them in a folder. If the phone has CWM recovery, then proceed to the next step, otherwise flash CWM recovery from the link above.

Step 2: Connect the device to the computer and copy the downloaded files to the root of its internal storage.

Step 3: Reboot the device into recovery mode. To do this, power off the device, press and hold Volume Down + Power until the device boots into recovery.

Step 4: Make a backup of the current configuration from CWM recovery. Once it is done, navigate to the main menu.

Step 5: From recovery, perform the wipe data/factory reset operation. Next, open the Install menu and select the ROM file to flash it. Select GAPPS file and flash it. Once done, reboot your device.

At the end of the whole task, the user should encounter a new boot animation with the CyanogenMod logo, which could take a lot of time to appear. It will be followed by a welcome message, meaning that the user can start setting up the smartphone.
