The "Grey's Anatomy" season 13 will be focusing on old established characters, going back to their beginnings and how they cope with the challenges that come their way. In this season's episode 7, Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) made a brief but poignant cameo, leading fans to speculate if Dr. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) will also be revisiting Grey Sloan Hospital anytime soon.

Creator Shonda Rhimes has revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that the latest season of "Grey's Anatomy" will be focusing more on old established characters or those that were in the very beginning of the show. Only Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), Webber (James Pickens Jr.), Bailey (Chandra Wilson), and Alex (Justin Chambers) are left of the original cast members, meaning that season 13 will be delving more about their characters.

Viewers have already seen this with episode 7, "The Room Where It All Happened" where we see Webber having a vision of his mother who died of pancreatic cancer when he was still young. That particular episode has been well received and widely talked about, validating Rhimes philosophy on where to take the show for the 13^th season.

In the teaser promo for episode 9, "You Haven't Done Nothing," the show will delve into the character of Alex as he faces legal problems, possibly facing jail time. Alex once assaulted intern Andre DeLuca (Giacomo Giannitti) after suspecting that DeLuca is harassing Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington).

Jo, on the other hand, will make a confession to Alex about her past marriage and her real identity according to Cartermatt. The episode will also test the leadership of Webber and Bailey, two original characters of the show.

What fans are anticipating in "Grey's Anatomy" season 13 is to see old characters revisiting the show. Viewers already got a treat in seeing Derek Shepherd, now they are clamoring for Dr. Cristina Yang.

Yang never left the show, but only moved to Zurich so it is plausible that her character can visit again. However, Rhimes and the cast have given no announcements or hints on this matter, leaving fans to just wait until the final episode. "Grey's Anatomy" season 13 episode 9 airs on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
