The rebooted X-Men may have another shot in turning a dark Phoenix plot line into a blockbuster, potentially catapulting the X-Men franchise, which is now lagging behind Marvel's and even DC's. This would mean that the success of the new X-Men will have to rely on a good story line and the star appeal of Hollywood newcomer, Sophie Turner, who plays Jean Grey.

The X-Men Universe is still unchartered territory when it comes to well established characters and story lines, especially after the franchise announced a major reboot. The "X-Men Apocalypse" brought in new faces and introduced new characters as a launching point in building and connecting future X-men movies.

There is a rumor that the franchise may re-use the Dark Phoenix Saga to build the X-Men Universe. Viewers have already caught a glimpse of Phoenix, which is the alter ego of Jean Grey in the latest X-Men movie. It was actually Phoenix that defeated the ancient mutant nemesis, En Sabah Nur (Oscar Isaac).

In the X-Men comics and even in the 1990s animated series, the Phoenix is a powerful entity that defeated both Apocalypse and Galactus according to LRM. In the 2006's "X-Men: The Last Stand," the Phoenix became the super villain that even the best of the X-men cannot overcome.

It was only upon mustering all her strength did Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) take back control, but only for a few seconds to beg Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) to kill her. The tragic ending of a beloved character and the liberties that director Brett Ratner took for the movie were not positively received by comic fans and movie viewers alike as reported in Cinema Blend.

It is surprising then that 20^th Century Fox is still exploring the dark Phoenix saga. Fans are speculating that this may be a chance for the studios to give the material justice, having the opportunity to do it all over again.

The saga is rich material that given the right people working on it may spell a huge success to a franchise that needs not only rebooting but redemption as well. This is also an opportunity for Sophie Turner to establish herself in Hollywood that Sansa Stark may not be able to accomplish.
