Fox is making the popular novel "The Passage" into a TV drama series and its great news for vampire fans out there. The upcoming vampire series will be based on a 2010 fantasy trilogy book of the same title written by Justin Cronin.

The 2010 bestselling novel, features a post-apocalyptic future where virus-infected vampires roam the world with human colonies living together. The story begins as a character-driven government conspiracy thriller and later, moves into the post-apocalyptic world that is overrun by vampire-like creatures that are infected by a highly contagious and deadly virus. The series focuses on a young girl named Amy who must save the human race from the blood-sucking vampires.

The story begins in 2016 and spans years ahead, as human colonies tried to live in a world filled with creepy creatures who are continually on the hunt for fresh blood. What begins as a life-saving project to develop a new healing drug based on a virus carried by an unnamed species of bat eventually becomes the virus that destroys mankind.

According to reports, the network has already ordered a pilot production for a TV adaptation of bestselling fantasy novel "The Passage". And 20th Century Fox TV is putting some of its best people in the said project, with writer Liz Heldens ("Friday Night Lights") and Felicity's Matt Reeves attached to direct. Fox and Scott Free Productions have teamed up and acquired the movie rights for this novel for $1.75 million in 2007. The group has already acquired the rights to the novel before it was even published.

Fans of post-apocalyptic films and series will definitely love this upcoming series. The vampire-filled series will be more like the Walking Dead in its approach to survival, except that it's filled with more blood-sucking creatures instead of the walking zombies. There're no words to the release date yet, as Fox is still busy working on the pilot production.
