Last week, rapper Eminem was made the subject of a death hoax that spread widely across Facebook. The story first popped up on a Facebook fanpage that closely resembled Eminem's official page, confusing many fans as to its authenticity.

Aside from Eminem, many other celebrities and personalities have been hit by death hoax that caused panic and shock among fans. Here are some of the famous celebrity death hoaxes.

Paul McCartney Death Hoax

McCartney may have been one of the first celebrities victimized by a death hoax. Back when The Beatles was at the height of fame, it was widely rumored that McCartney had died in 1966 and had since been replaced by a look-alike. In March 2012, another fabricated story about his death stemmed from Twitter.

Jaden Smith Death Hoax

Will Smith's son has been a target of death hoaxes several times on Facebook. A fake video reporting about Smith's supposed death made its round on the social media site and was shared several times throughout the globe. The more people on the link, the more it gets spread around on people's newsfeeds, Mirror reported.

Macaulay Culkin Death Hoax

Macaulay Culkin, star of the hit "Home Alone" movie series, was at the center of a death hoax that circulated on social media. The false report said that he had died in 2014. The rumor began to spread after a fake tribute page titled "RIP Macaulay Culkin" was created on Facebook.

Rowan Atkinson Death Hoax

The "Mr. Bean" star became the subject of several death hoaxes in the past. The most recent one came out this year, in which it was said that the actor committed suicide in his California home. Further, it was alleged that the 60-year-old actor was going through severe depression.

The death hoax was later shut down, and it was confirmed that Atkinson is still alive and well. As a matter of fact he's currently filming his upcoming television movie titled "Maigret."

Cher Death Hoax

"RIP Cher" became a trending topic on Twitter in 2012, leaving many of the singer's fans in shock - including Kim Kardashian West. A fabricated tweet that appeared like it was retweeted from CNN made rounds on the internet, stating that Cher had been found dead in her Malibu home.

According to New York Daily News, Kardashian blasted at the perpetrators of the hoax, saying he couldn't believe "people would make up a sick joke like Cher died. These people need to get a life."
