In the season 13 episode 8 of "Grey's Anatomy," the doctors are operating on a trauma patient in the Grey Sloan Hospital. Doctors Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.), Stephanie Edwards (Jerrika Hinton) and Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) were on hand and each received a vision that ultimately helped them save the patient's life.

A trauma patient was reeled into the OR with a damaged liver. Webber gives him the name of Gail after his mother who died of pancreatic cancer. By making the patient more human, the doctors will be able to treat him as more than just tissue and blood. Webber then sees his mother playing the cello.

The nameless patient made Hunt recollect the fallen soldiers he encountered in Iraq. He also remembered his deceased sister, Megan (Bridget Regan), who appears in the OR. She taunts his brother even saying that he should have married Meredith so that he will have kids. Hunt says "I miss you," which Megan quickly dismiss and told him to focus because he knows what he needs to do.

Meanwhile, Edwards had an epiphany on why the patient is not responding to their treatment. Prodded by her younger self, Edwards gave her fellow doctors a complete rundown of facts and treatment to help the patient. When asked how she knows all this, she answers with "I read a lot," having suffered from sickle-cell anemia which kept her bedridden as a child.

Meredith found out that the patient has a wife and kids, prompting her to recall her husband's death. She had flashbacks of talking to Zola and Bailey about not being able to "fix" daddy because he is already dead. She then made a last minute decision to put back the patient's salvaged liver along with the transplant, which saved his life. After that, Meredith caught a glimpse of Derek tying his trademark ferry scrub thanks to CGI as reported in Entertainment Weekly.

For fans of the show, the off-format episode titled "The Room Where It Happens" aired last Thursday, Nov. 10 had been a real tearjerker according to US Magazine. Creator Shonda Rhimes gripping storytelling is what makes Grey's Anatomy last this long
