Samsung released the world's first-ever curved phone in South Korea on Thursday, according to Samsung's blog. It's a gentle curve with a flexible screen; users shouldn't worry about it cracking under pressure.

The outcomes of "Galaxy Round's" curved shape and HD Super AMOLED flexible display are narrow yet important, according to computerworld.com.

When the phone's "asleep", users need only to touch one of the upturned sides to display essentials like date, time, and any updates on missed calls or messages. No button tapping or password keying necessary. Based on the YouTube example example, the time between touch and screen reaction appears maybe a beat slow, but perhaps that's intentional.

The flexible display was essential for executing the curved shape. Its other implications, however, may be best demonstrated by a Samsung prototype device in which the screen is curved around the edges, reported Computer World. This innovation gives users screen access from the side of the phone, which could come in handy in several scenarios such as driving or a quick pocket check. Samsung's blog post also lauds the feel of the phone.

"With the phone curved horizontally (or vertically, if you're holding it landscape), this felt awesome in my hands," the blogger wrote. "The grip was amazingly snug."

Other companies are working on flexible displays, but Samsung was the first, according to Computer World. In fact, the phone company has done well developing and releasing products quicker than its competitors. Samsung is the largest phone maker in the world, as per Computer World.

Galaxy Round sells in South Korea for just over $1,000. No information yet availble on price or availabliity in the U.S., however, Americans would most likely be buyers only at around $500, Computer Network reported.
