When you are applying for a job, it's natural for you to go an extra mile to impress the hiring manager, but of course you need to make sure you are not overdoing it. These hiring managers are looking at several qualifications which will make them decide if you are fit for the job.

But what do you think do you need to highlight? Is it your years of experience and hard work in your company? Or is it the fact that you are a natural when it comes to achievements?

Chia-Jung Tsay, a professor from the University College London conducted a study that says that experience is nothing compared to natural talent when it comes to impressing a hiring manager.

Based on the series of studies, it was revealed that employers or hiring managers have shown a bias for those applicants with natural talent over the ones who have shown hard work and dedication for their respective companies.

In one of the studies, a potential candidate named Charles were rated by the participants based on factors such as his likelihood to be successful and how likely he is going to be hired. Half of the participants were given the information that Charles was a natural and talented leader while the other half were told that Charles was a hard working employee who eventually became a leader. Those participants who recognized Charles' natural talent were the ones who gave him higher ratings.

It is interesting to know how these participants were led to appreciate people with natural talent than those who work hard but are less qualified.

This only goes to show that even if don't have long years of experience in your field, it does not translate to a disadvantage for you. So when you are applying for a job, why don't you highlight on some skills that you can be proud of, something that only you have. Who knows you can land that job you've been dreaming of.
