It is highly possible that Captain Marvel was referenced in the "Doctor Strange" movie. Neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange takes a call about a young woman struck by lightning with an injury further complicated by a metal implant to manage her schizophrenia.

The scene happened so fast with the call abruptly ending when Strange's car spins and crashes. Some moviegoers totally missed the call, regarding it as unimportant, but that is how Marvel typically downplays any kind of references.

However, movie reviewers have picked up the reference as possibly pertaining to another Marvel superhero, Captain Marvel. Marvel Studios have already announced that Oscar winner Brie Larson will be playing Captain Marvel with the movie set to be released in 2019.

"Doctor Strange" director Scott Derrickson sat down with Entertainment Weekly and was asked about the reference. The director refuses to elaborate but many fans are quick to interpret that a quote from Brittany Murphy's "Don't Say A Word" does not make up a strong denial.

Fans are now speculating if Captain Marvel will make an earlier debut in the the "Avengers: Infinity War" before being launched in a solo film. If the "Doctor Strange" reference was indeed about Captain Marvel, then her origins have deviated from the Marvel comic books.

In the Marvel comics, Carol Danvers is a young woman who got her powers when exposed to a Kree device blast. The explosion resulted to her genetic structure emerging with a Kree alien called Mar-vell.

"Captain Marvel" screenwriter Nicole Perlman admits that there will be major tweaks in the character's origins for her big screen debut, Comic Book reported. She also added that they want the fans to make a distinction between Captain Marvel and Green Lantern, whose own origins took a very similar path.

Though there are no official statements as of yet, Marvel fans are already anticipating the newest addition to see how Captain Marvel plays out in the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe.
