Apple launched its new MacBook Pros late last week with emphasis on the machines redesigned body and their advanced OLED display panel. However, the Cupertino based tech company appears to have ditched optical audio output support via the headphone jack on its latest MacBook Pros.

The tech giant's latest 13-inch MacBrook Pro doesn't have support for optical digital audio output that came along with the 3.5mm headphone jack of its 2015 model and earlier. The optical audio output support enables people to link the MacBook to devices such as computers, video game consoles and DVD players, for a surround sound experience, according to Apple Insider.

The technical specifications of the 13 inch and the 15 inch MacBook Pro, shows that the Apple machines come with a 3.5mm headphone jack. But, the listing does not come along with a support for audio line out (digital or analog), which means Apple fans will not utilize the optical digital audio output support in Apple's latest 13 inch and the 15 inch MacBook Pros.

In spite of that, the tech monster made it known that they dropped the feature because it was not being used by many consumers, noting that a great deal of USB-C zero-latency professional peripherals are now up for grabs, or imminent with the optical audio out connectivity, Mac Rumors has learned.

Anyway, disposing the standard from Apple's latest MacBook Pro models follows a trend that started with the Apple TV. The tech company removed the optical audio port on the fourth generation Apple TV to give way to a USB-C port, in which it prevents users from linking headphones directly to the device.

Nevertheless, SVP of worldwide marketing at Apple, Phil Schiller, said that they decided to ditch the SD slot for the reason that it's a bit of a cumbersome. So, the company thinks there's a path forward where users can use a physical adapter if they want, The Independent reported.
