The former number one Finnish mobile phone manufacturer, Nokia, is coming back and is making a smartphone. The return was announced by Nokia CEO Rajeey Suri.

According to GSM Arena, Nokia will mark their return with an Android powered smartphone after its contract with Microsoft ended. In a short period, Nokia exclusively used Microsoft's Windows Phone platform.

Back in Nov. 2014, Nokia has designed its own Android-powered tablet with Nokia's Z Launcher software that was announced at the Slush conference, according to Forbes. However, Nokia did not create succeeding devices because of their exclusivity contract with Microsoft.

The R&D center of Nokia has permanently transferred at Sichuan, China, where Nokia is working on its Android-powered smartphones. Nokia will use once again its Z Launcher software, but this time with Google Android as its base software. Foxconn, one of the world's largest contract electronics manufacturer, obtained the license for the manufacturing of tablets, support, shipping and selling

The president of the joint management team in China, Nokia Executive Mike Wang, confirmed that in the fourth quarter of 2016, 3 or 4 Nokia branded Android-powered devices will be revealed. Nokia will license its brand to its Asian partners who will create the Nokia handsets. According to BGR, Foxconn subsidiaries Infocus and Sharp engineers has apparently designed the device.

There are no leaked details on the specifications or targeted price of the upcoming devices. Android Authority reported there were rumors about Nokia's plan of launching two premium phones powered by Android 7.0 Nougat. It is also reported that Nokia smartphones will feature 5.2 and 5.5-inch QHD OLED display, a dust and water resistant metal body with a 22.6-megapixel camera and a Snapdragon 820 processor.
