The most awaited sequel to "Avatar," the highest grossing movie of 2009, was announced to be released in Christmas 2017, but director James Cameron hinted in an interview that there might be delays in the production.

This will be the second delay since the movie was originally slated for release this Christmas season, si eager fans waiting for the heroes of Pandora will have to wait a little longer, according to an E! News report.

With the success of the first movie, fans want another experience of the compelling story of the Na'avi people and expect a sequel. When news about a second installment of the movie, fans sought updates and news about the release of the film.

Speculations circulating that the delay was due to the changes in the release date of Disney Pictures' Star Wars VIII where the original release date of March 26, 2017, was moved to Dec.15, 2017. Film production house 20^th Century Fox is yet to comment on the speculation.

James Cameron revealed in an interview with Variety about the plot of Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 which sounded similar to another blockbuster hit Star Wars, iDigitalTimes reported. To describe the plot, Cameron used the words "family saga". It is also expected that the 2^nd sequel will pick up from where the first sequel ended.

The original cast will be back, together with Zoe Saldana who will resume the role as Neytiri and Sam Worthington as JakeSully as they had already signed a contract to resume their respective roles. Dead characters of Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang will be expected to come back alive in a whole new character.

"Avatar 2" will be back in Pandora but it will be underwater. The scenes will again promote wild imaginations.

As for now, there is no update on the release date of Avatar. According to AvatarBlog, though they haven't started filming yet, Cameron is planning to shoot in New Zealand like the first sequel of this highest grossing film.
