"Pokemon GO" may soon face some competition real soon. Sony is preparing to take on Nintendo and Niantic in the arena of mobile gaming.

Sony Notes Recent Success of Pokemon GO

No less than Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai took interest of Nintendo's success with mobile game "Pokemon GO." He seemed impressed with how Nintendo shifted from console games to mobile ones. As a result Hirai said that Sony will follow Nintendo's strategy and unleash its own mobile games. Such news will surely excite quite a number of gamers who are well aware of Sony's game library.

Could Sony Replicate Nintendo's Success With Pokemon GO

Sony and Nintendo are both game console makers, but the former has clearly cornered a bigger pie of the market than Nintendo. The fact that "Pokemon GO" is a successful mobile game is largely due to Niantic. Nintendo did not directly venture into mobile games but instead licensed the use of the Pokemon to Niantic. Currently, "Pokemon GO" is earning around $2 million every day.

Some industry observers doubt that Sony can make great mobile game on its own, according to Forbes. In their opinion, the PlayStation Company is better off if it let other game developers handle the creation of mobile game contents. They also point out that Sony's strength is more on gaming platform and not gaming content creator.

Sony intends to launch around five mobile games by 2018 that will be distributed in Japan and surrounding markets in Asia. There has been no official announcement as to what those games will be. However, industry observers believed that it will be mostly old game titles form PS 3 or PS Vita adjusted for mobile gaming.

Hirai is hopeful that his company can replicate the success of Nintendo with "Pokemon GO". Sony may be late in entering the mobile game arena but it's trying hard to make up for lost time.
