The latest update on the sequel of "The Last of Us" is brewing. Despite Naughty Dog's failure to release concrete update, news about "The Last of Us 2" continues to intrigue fans online. Lately, rumors are circulating that Naughty Dog is actually developing a prototype for the sequel.

First thing, however, is that there's still no confirmed release date for "The Last of Us 2." Despite that, fans consider Naughty Dog's silence as a possible indication that they are developing the game already. According to the PlayStation Universe, rumors hinted that "The Last of Us 2" will arrive either on 2018 or 2019. The website hints that 2018 marks the fifth year since the original game was released on the PS3 console.

Meanwhile, voice actor Nolan North previously hinted that "The Last of Us 2" will be coming soon. With no concrete details to back up his claims, he said that an apparent brainstorming has been done by the whole team. Interestingly, this was during Naughty Dog's creation of "Uncharted 4." Also, the developer hinted on "revisiting" some of the ideas of "The Last of Us" after they finish developing "Uncharted 4."

Some few fan input also made way online wherein a suggestion of retaining the character of Joel and Ellie on "The Last of Us 2" will be an excellent idea. Of course, there's also the chance of a new protagonist, given the fate of "The Last of Us."

An interesting feature by HealthAim on the other hand shed light on the possible characters in "The Last of Us 2." As game director Neil Druckmann puts it, there will be diversity in the characters. In his interview with Design N Trend, he said that "Religion was a big part of it. I'm just wrestling with that concept. Is that true, or is it just totally random? "Everything happens for a reason."
