Facebook is beginning to double up its virtual reality arm, as they plan to unleash the Social VR soon. The new social experience would allow individuals to interact with friends via the social network directly from the headset.

Part of the reason why Facebook is investing so heavily into VR at the moment is that the social network company wants its users to switch platforms in the hope of socializing directly from their headset, without the need of utilizing any extra devices.

Although tech fans still need to wait before VR becomes a platform that can easily compete with mobile or desktops, the social network company already has a number of prototypes for its virtual reality experience, which should allow people to view photospheres, receive messenger video calls, customize their own virtual avatars and take virtual selfies, Android Headlines has learned.

The social media giant aimed to be prepared and have its VR experience available as soon as possible in a bid to stay relevant. Facebook also ensures that they're on the right track for it before any of its competitors do.

Regardless of how, when Facebook Social VR Product Manager Mike Booth was asked whether the social media company planned to wait and put out their social VR offering as a big company-wide launch, or if it will be available to the public sooner, Booth stated that when the Social VR is done, it will be out in the market as soon as possible, Road To Vr reported. 

Meanwhile, Facebook's chief technology officer Mike Schroepfer wrote on his Facebook account that the social network company showed its vision for a future of computing that puts individuals first, allowing them to go anywhere and do anything with their friends and family that matter to them. He added that the software Zuckerberg demonstrated was the early work of the Social VR team of Facebook, which consisted of engineers and designers working on the platform.
