Last year was the most amazing times for live streaming apps. During these times, apps like Periscope and Meerkat were on the peak of their popularity as tons and tons of smartphone and tablet users got fond of using the said apps. While the former has still been very active even up to now, things haven't been going well with the case of Meerkat.

The live streaming app might be one of the most popular and most downloaded apps of 2015, but right now, it has finally come to an end. Meerkat has officially been pulled off by its developers and will forever remain offline, according to Android Police.

The company which developed Meerkat named Life on Air has confirmed that it officially pulled the strings out of Meerkat because it wants to be more focused on a newly created group chat called Houseparty.

Co-founder of Life on Air company, Ben Rubin, told authorities that Meerkat may have been cut off from the app store but it was the sole decision of the company to finally end the six-month run of the app after it was first launched.

According to him, one of the key reasons why their company killed the Meerkat was because the app wasn't used by individuals in a daily basis.

He also added that Housepart, Life on Air's latest app is the one that manifests best the mission of their company which is to connect people in the most humane way possible. Moreover, the app also spread like wildfire throughout users perhaps that's why the company needed to give up another, which unfortunately happened in Meerkat's case.

This is precisely one of the reasons why Meerkat never really survived the social app industry, as reported by UberGizmo. However, Periscope developed by Twitter is guilty to be one of the main factors why the app have been killed. It's now accessible for users to do live streaming while being inside the main app of Twitter and was perhaps one of the hardest blow Meerkat has ever received.
