For students who are looking forward to getting a degree in arts and humanities, the choice can be quite difficult not knowing which one offers the best programs and instruction.The Times Higher Education has recently created their list of the best of the top universities when it comes to arts and humanities using the same criteria they used to find the best universities in the world.

Stanford University tops the list with 63 percent undergraduate degrees and 40 percent doctorate degrees under its Science and Humanities program. Stanford considers its Humanities program as the "soul" of its institution. Some of the university's latest achievements include an online course that focuses on music appreciation and a comprehensive study on race and ethnicity.

Harvard comes in second with very diverse and unique programs in Humanities, such as Plato, Celtic myths, novel art, and Jazz Age novels. Considered the oldest university in the United States, Harvard has 46 undergraduate programs and 136 graduate degrees. Most leaders of the nation graduated from that university.

Third in the list is Oxford University where one-third of its population are international students. Unlike universities in the US, students who enroll in Oxford are admitted for a specific course. Those who are in an undergraduate course can have joint degrees, like a combination of the arts and sciences.

The University College of London comes in next with its arts and humanities programs rank higher than the other programs they offer. UCL has the largest population among the top 5 universities in the list, half of whom are international students. One of its notable students is Mahatma Gandhi who attended UCL before taking the Bar in London.

The fifth university which has the best Humanities program is Cambridge. It offers a diverse mix of subjects in their School for Arts and Humanities which include Asian history and the cultural significance of the flamenco dance.
