In "Pokemon Go," every Pokemon you get your hands on boasts a different CP (Combat Power) that represents how powerful the creature actually is, and knowing this piece of information comes in handy while battling, defending a gym and other stages of the game.

CP enables players to determine which Pokemon in their Pokedex is the most powerful. However, the game does not divulge its maximum CP. But thanks to dedicated players, that gap in knowledge has now been filled in. 

Here's a comprehensive chart of the maximum combat power of every Pokemon in the hit augmented reality mobile game. The chart is based on data assembled by Redditor called zehipp0 (via The SilphRoad).

Readers should bear in mind that the number mentioned on the chart is theoretical and is actually as high as the Pokemon can possibly go, considering the player is Level 40 and the creature has perfect IVs.

It's worth noting that nobody has been able to reach level 40 without using cheats. That being said, attempting to reach that level without any sort of outside help, reaching level 40 could be quite a laborious and time consuming task. Nevertheless, it's still a useful piece of information that let you know what your current CP is out of.

It is important for players to bear in mind that the maximum CP does not indicate the highest CP that the Pokemon can be when caught in the wild. That's likely to be a bit lower, and it is based on your level. For instance, the Max CP for Bulbasaur is 1072, but if you're a Level 20, the max CP Bulbasaur you can get your hands on is 678.

Dragonite is the highest CP creature in the game, and it is followed by Snorlax, Arcanine and Lapras. Mewtwo is the highest CP Pokemon in the game's code, boasting a Max CP of 4145. Regrettably, this coveted creature is not yet available in the game, Heavy reported.

Magikarp has the lowest CP, and it is followed shortly by the frequently encountered Caterpie, Weedle, and Diglett. Each Pokemon has a certain amount of CP associated with it that increases every time you power it up. You need both stardust and candy to power up a Pokemon. Although this number varies, we now know the average CP gained every time you power up specific species, thanks to data from The Silph Road.
