Google will get rid of Nexus branding on this year's latest smartphone in favor of a new Pixel name. Google's new smartphones also come with a new pitch, the handsets are no longer pure Android gadgets, nor are they affordable.

The Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones will be a high-end devices that are meant to rival the iPhone 7 and this year's top of the line Android smartphones, based on the report of BGR.

The Pixel, used to be called as Sailfish, is supposed to come along with a 5-inch display. While the Pixel XL, also known as the Marlin, will have a 5.5-inch screen, according to Android Central.

Rumor has it that the tech company is launching the two new smartphones later this year and be built by HTC.

Google Pixel, which is the smaller of the two smartphones, was first detailed under the name Sailfish. Pixel is said to come along with quad-core 2.0 GHz 64-bit processor, a 2770 mAh battery, 4 gigabyte of RAM, 32 gigabyte of storage, a 12 megapixel rear camera, and an 8 megapixel front shooter, Venture Beat reported.

Also, tech fans could expect the Pixel smartphone to have a top-mounted headphone jack, a fingerprint scanner on the rear, as well as a USB-C port on the bottom.

While the Google Pixel XL will be packed with similar specs like the Pixel, except for the a 3450mAh battery and a 5.5-inch QHD display.

The release date for the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones is not known. Speculations swarmed the internet that the Pixel will retail for $649 when it goes on sale.

Images of the Google Pixel lineup surfaced on the internet and gives smartphone enthusiasts a general idea of what to expect from the tech company's next-gen flagship smartphones.

However, Google is said to unveil the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones on October 4 during a special media event that's also supposed to bring tech fans at least one big surprise as well.
