Apple is reportedly talking to British car company, McLaren. What could they be discussing about?

After the release of iPhone 7 and the rumors about Macbook Pro 2016 that's yet to be confirmed, another rant garnered attentions from the public. This time, the meeting that Apple and McLaren were having previously.

Many speculations believe that Apple plans to take over the supercar maker. According to The Verge, Apple is reportedly in negotiation to acquire McLaren. The rumor swirl makes sense since it has been awhile that the tech giant is said to make a breakthrough in automotive industry.

Another report from WashingtonPost states that Apple is 'reportedly in talks' to buy the car company and it took awhile before McLaren finally confirmed that there is no discussion about it.

Although it is unclear whether there is a talk about investment, the estimation of McLaren value has been all over the web, starting from $1 to $2 billion deal. However, now the rumors are confirmed after McLaren clearly makes a statement that the company is not in discussion of any potential investment with Apple.

Since there is no acquisition, what could Apple and McLaren be talking about?

With this in mind, it would make sense that Apple might be discussing with McLaren about self-driving software. In July, Bloomberg reported that Apple appointed a new leader for the car development team, emphasizing on the technology. It is also reported that Dan Dodge - a former head of Blackberry's vehicle software division has joined Apple since early 2016. Apple refuses to give any official statement regarding the matter and remains mum.

McLaren as one of the world-class engineering company, an expert in design, manufacturing, and science - with years of experience - would be the perfect source to 'teach' Apple about autonomous car software.
