While rumor mills continue to churn a slew of speculations around the Google Nexus 2016 release date, avid Nexus fans are still waiting with bated breath for the tech monster to unleash the highly anticipated successors for the current Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P smartphones.

That being said, gadget freaks might be in for a huge disappointment as recently surfaced reports indicate that Google will be getting rid of the Nexus brand and offer a new line instead.

If rumors doing rounds are anything to go by, this new device will be dubbed as "Pixel," which is said to hit the store shelves by October 4 in two variants - the "Pixel" and "Pixel XL."

It can be recalled that "Pixel" and "Pixel XL" were originally dubbed as "Sailfish" and "Marlin" respectively. While the Pixel will be a sequel to the aforementioned Nexus 5X, the Pixel XL will be the successor to the more high-end Nexus 6P, TrustedReviews reported.

Pixel & Pixel XL: Specs And Features

As far as specifications are concerned, rumors are running rampant that the purported Pixel and Pixel XL will be powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 System on Chip (SoC), coupled with 4GB of RAM.

The smartphones will be up for grabs in two different models - 32GB and 128GB. There's no word on whether or not the two smartphones will be available in both aforesaid variants.

Rumors are rife that the Pixel (Sailfish) will be available in standard size of 5-inch, and the Pixel XL (Marlin), however will be available in an expanded option of 5.5-inch, according to reports on Christian Today.

It remains to be seen if Google is simply postponing the release date for Google Nexus 2016 or is the search engine giant really ditching it from its plans?
