Google recently rolled out its latest OS, Android 7.0 Nougat with tablet supporting features, but tablets have not been as well received as smartphones in the market. That being said, things are likely to change as recent reports hint Google is gearing up to launch its next variant of the Nexus tablet in collaboration with Huawei, the Nexus 7 (2016).

Another report indicates that the search engine giant will launch its latest hardware under the Pixel brand. The Pixel brand reportedly also includes the purported Nexus 7 (2016) tablet.

Amid rumors about the impending Nexus 7 tablet doing rounds, latest reports suggest Google may finally be gearing up to revamp its Nexus 7 (2013) as well. Google's Nexus brand launched the Nexus 7 three years ago. Here's what you need to know.

The Tablet Will Be Manufactured By Huawei

Rumor mills have been swirling speculations around the Nexus 7 (2016) since last year, but one piece of information has been repeated; the Nexus 7 (2016) is a Huawei-built tablet. This is hardly surprising as Google has collaborated with the Chinese tech firm before to manufacture the much-lauded Nexus 6P. Although this may sound quite tempting, gadgets freaks are advised to take this piece of information with a grain of salt as Google has remained tight-lipped and has neither confirmed nor denied these speculations.

Notable leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks) fueled these speculations centering on the rumored tablet as he posted a few details about the said device on Twitter on Tuesday, September 6.

Based on the information leaked via the tweet, the impending tablet will sport a 7-inch display and will pack 4GB of RAM. Google Nexus (2016) release date is speculated to arrive before the end of the year, per the information divulged by the tipster.

In addition, the 7-inch tablet is expected to feature an AMOLED Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) display. Moreover, the Huawei-built tablet is said to be powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, paired with an equally robust Adreno 530 graphics processing unit, PhoneArena reported.

In terms of storage, the device will feature 64GB internal storage, but there are no details on whether or not the device will offer microSD card support.

The 7-inch slate is likely to sport a 13MP rear-facing camera possibly packed with unnamed advanced features. According to the source divulging these details, the specs are based on a pre-production model, so minor changes in the final device are likely.

From Nexus to Pixel

If rumors doing rounds are anything to go about, the upcoming tablet will not be dubbed as Nexus 7 (2016). Apparently, Google is on the verge of dropping the Nexus brand name, and will opt for Pixel instead. Also, the upcoming HTC-built smartphones will be called the Pixel and the Pixel XL, according to reports on DigitalTrends.

Availability & Price

It remains to be seen if the price jump in the Pixel line affects the 7-inch variant as well. Google released the Pixel C in December 2015, so there is a possibility that the tech firm could take the wraps off the unnamed 7-inch tablet around a similar release window.

That's about 3 months after a slew of Google devices including the Pixel smartphones are expected to hit the store shelves. Stay tuned for more details.
