When Microsoft broke out the news that Intel Kaby Lake and AMD Zen chipset will only support Windows 10, disappointments and frustrations overwhelmed the consumers who planned to upgrade their processors to the latest Intel and AMD processors. However, consumers must not fret because a processor analyst said that Intel Kaby Lake and AMD Zen are okay to run the older versions of operating systems like Windows 7, 8 and 8.1

Dean McCarron, a processor analyst of Mercury Research shared his thoughts to PC World about running older versions of Windows OS with Intel Core Kaby Lake processor. According to him, he expected the outcome to be just fine because Intel will surely find a way to come up with a third party driver support that will allow Windows OS older versions to run. PC World concluded that coming up with a "black box" or modified drivers would be the only way, however it requires a complicated process and documentations.

It can be recalled that Microsoft is pushing its way towards forced upgrades to Windows 10. Forbes reported that per Microsoft policy, Intel does not have a plan for updating drivers in support for Windows 7 and Windows 8 and 8.1. This caused disappointments to users since the 7th generations of Intel chipset the Kaby Lake has an outstanding performance compare to its predecessor the Skylake series.

When it comes to work-related application, Kaby Lake delivers 12 percent faster in productivity and 19 percent faster when it comes to web performance. Also, Kaby Lake boosts the performance of PC when it comes to 4K video content processing. Aside from that, Kaby Lake contributes in the improvement of battery life for laptops and boosts connectivity. The newest chips also support USB 3.1 and Thunderbolt 3 standard.

The update will be released in July 2017 considered as the most critical time for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 security updates.
