With nearly all of 2016's major smartphones already unveiled, and apparently nothing left to learn about Apple's highly-anticipated iPhone 7, spotlight is now turning to 2017 and to the Samsung Galaxy S8, which is rumored to sport a different camera to its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S7.

Rumor mills have been swirling a slew of speculations around what the South Korean tech firm plans on shipping with its imminent Galaxy S8; suggesting that the phone will feature a 12 and 13 MP dual lens rear camera.

Meanwhile, Apple is gearing up to take the wraps off its latest flagship iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus at a press event slated to take place on Wednesday, September 7 and the pair have been stirring conversations among zealous fans and industry watchers over the last few months. If rumors proved to be true, Apple will replicate the design of the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, get rid of the standard 3.5mm headphone port, and the larger model will debut a cutting edge dual-lens camera system.

Apple is not the first handset manufacturer to ship a smartphone with a dual-lens rear camera; nevertheless, Apple will present the feature in a manner that will compel other smartphone makers to match it.

That being said, Samsung has never refrained from matching Apple, and if rumors proved to be true, the South Korean smartphone manufacturer will bring a new dual-lens camera system to its next-generation Galaxy S8 smartphone that is slated to be unveiled at MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2017, which takes place from February 27 through March 2, 2017, TechTimes reported.

Apparently, one lens on the Galaxy S8 will be 12 MP, like on the Galaxy S7, the other will be 13 MP, and the company will be using both its own as well as Sony's lenses, according to reports on TechRadar.

Samsung will reportedly build the 12 MP rear camera and also use a 13 MP camera in the Galaxy S8's dual-lens camera, which will pave the way for depth of field focusing for improved image quality. While the Galaxy S7 ships with a 5 MP front snapper for selfies and video chats, the Galaxy S8 is said to boast an upgraded 8 MP front shooter for the selfie-addicts.
