While some fans are not happy about Zendaya taking the role of Mary Jane in the upcoming "Spider-Man: Homecoming" film, Stan Lee himself defends the actress.

The creator of Spider-Man and Mary Jane, Stan Lee himself, defends the role given to Zendaya even though there are some who are not contented. The legendary creator himself begs to differ from the complaints just because she was a black actress. Stan Lee says that if Zendaya is a good actress, in which she is as people have been hearing, then it is absolutely wonderful that she takes the role, the Toronto Sun reported.

Zendaya was best known for her TV series in Disney and her pop single, "Replay". Initially, her character was named Michelle. However, recent reports revealed that Zendaya would be playing the role of Mary Jane Watson, the love interest of the web-slinging hero:  Spider-Man. Zendaya's role  as Mary Jane caused an uproar among fans and the decision was the source of many rumors that surrounded the highly-anticipated movie, according to Inquistr.

Additionally, Stan Lee went far in discussing roles. He referenced the role given to the Kingpin in the "Daredevil" movie which is released in 2003. Traditionally, the Kingpin was a caucasian male. In the film, however, he was played by a black actor, Michael Clarke Duncan. Stan Lee even praised Duncan as he "played the role beautifully".

The first Mary Jane was played by Kirsten Dunst. Although Zendaya is not the face that people expects to see, Stan Lee believes that the color of the skin does not matter in terms of her acting capability.

Meanwhile, the director of "The Guardians of the Galaxy", James Gunn, praised Zendaya and showed his support for her through a Facebook post. Gunn wrote that people can be open to the idea that people can be happily surprised.
