Dr. Dolly Parton has a nice ring to it. A few years ago, the legendary country music singer was honored for her achievements in country music.

It is now common to see artists and celebrities being celebrated and acknowledged for their work. Sometimes it is in the field of performing arts, sometimes in music, sometimes in business and humanitarian work. Business Insider has it that Parton was honored with a Doctorate of Humane and Musical Letters from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. In addition to the honor, she is considered as the second person to be awarded with the honor.

The multi-Grammy award winner and member of the Country Music Hall of Fame admits that she is proud to receive such an honor from her own home state.

To celebrate the honor, Dolly Parton proceeded with her commencement speech at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville College of Arts and Sciences. She received her honorary doctorate during the ceremony. Chancellor Jimmy Cheek said, "Because of her career not just as a musician and entertainer, but for her role as a cultural ambassador, philanthropist and lifelong advocate for education, it is fitting that she be honored with an honorary degree from the flagship educational institution of her home state."

This American singer, born in 1946, is a known songwriter, actress, businesswoman and humanitarian. She has achieved multiple awards in her tenure as a performer. On the record, she is considered to be the most honored female country performer of all time.

This Tennessee local graduated from high school in 1964. Afterwards, she moved to Nashville to jump start her career. In addition to the country awards and the Grammies she has received, she was also awarded by the Association of American Publishers for her literacy works. She also received the Galaxy Award in 2002 from the American Association of School Administrators and the Chasing Rainbows Award by the National State Teachers of the Year. Being a family advocate, she was also awarded with the Child and Family Advocacy Award by the parents as Teachers National Center.
