Deep in the Furuvik Zoo, Sweden, lives a 21-year-old Sumatran orangutan named Naong and his personal bar with zero-alcohol cocktails.

Researchers call it the affective forecasting - the ability to forecast an outcome which has never been experienced before. In this case, Naong is given various non-alcoholic cocktail drinks so he could choose which one he imagines, tastes good. The study published in Springer Link described how the research was conducted.

Naong - the male orangutan at Sweden's Furuvik Zoo who loves Cherry juice

Researchers offered Naong drinks with completely different flavors. Cherry juice, cider apple vinegar juice, rhubarb and lemon juice. Naong can access these juices from his cage using a straw. The non-verbal test began with giving Naong juice blends from the ingredients.

Surprisingly, Naong can remember each of the flavors even when combined. According to one of the authors, Gabriela Alina Sauciuc of Sweden's Lund University, Naong was able to predict what the new blends would taste.

The team made a comparison by conducting the test to humans. Both orangutan and human participants can 'put together relevant memories' when predicting a new flavor that comes from familiar tastes, New Scientist wrote.

This finding is in contrast to the previous studies that said animals will be stuck in the previous experiences and unable to predict a new situation. However, with Naong consistently made his choice clear; it means that the animal can also think and predict like humans

Previously, researchers were surprised by Rocky, the orangutan that copies can human speech. Now, an amusing yet incredible fact shows another orangutan can actually have a 'personal preference' of what a good cocktail should taste.

96 percent of orangutan genes are similar to humans', according to WWF. The endangered species have so many surprising things yet to be revealed and let's hope researchers can obtain more insights of the great apes.
