Sony, a multinational conglomerate corporation, has officially made a formal request to journalists to be present at the press conference in New York City on September 7, in which the upgraded PlayStation 4 is almost certain to be the huge release.

The emailed invitations came a day after reports surfaced on the internet that Sony was locked into the first Wednesday of September as the appointment for its next big announcement.

And while the written request of the event, simply states "PlayStation Meeting," it's hard to imagine that Sony Corporation would be showcasing anything else in such a high-profile venue, according to CNET.

The president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment - Andrew House, made it known that an updated version of the PlayStation 4 was on the blueprint during the pre-E3.

While the console wasn't shown or mentioned at the annual video game conference, still it confirmed that the console's codename is "Neo." And the new console would offer game enthusiasts an enhanced Ultra HD 4K graphics, and that the console would come alongside and complement the standard PS4.

"PS4 Neo" is also slated to present itself with a sizable boost in processing power, in which the device will be a more viable gadget for virtual reality (VR). While the company is gearing up to launch its PlayStation-only VR headset in October, the new PlayStation console may be up for grabs sometime in 2017, The Verge reported.

However, the timing of the upcoming event also makes it possible that the Neo will launch at retail before 2016 ended. As Microsoft recently launched the "Xbox One S," which is a refined and a slimmer model of its original 2013 version. And with that, Sony is in the process of making plans to debut a Neo equivalent called "Xbox One Scorpio" in 2017, based on the report of Venture Beat.
