Samsung Gear VR features a new touchpad, USB Type-C compatibility and a slightly wider field of view in its updated version. The revamped Gear VR will still sell at $99 and is scheduled to be released on Aug. 19.

The most important change implemented in the Samsung Gear VR 2 is its USB-C compatibility and the modular connection of the phone, Connected Life reported. The headset is expected to work with the new Samsung Galaxy Note 7 that uses a USB Type-C connection as well. The Gear V also has a Micro USB connector, making it compatible with the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and all S7 and S6 devices.

The Samsung Gear VR connector does not come in the form of a clumsy adaptor. The connectors can actually be swapped out. The user just need to flip a switch to unlock one from the headset and pull it out, and then snap in the other one.

A USB-C port has also replaced the Micro USB port found at the bottom of the Samsung Gear VR headset. Previously, the USB-C port was used to keep the phone charged during extended usage but today, Samsung says the new USB-C port can transfer also data. This opens up opportunities for accessories, gamepads and even motion controllers that potentially eliminates the need to rely on Bluetooth connections.

Samsung explained that the reason for using Micro USB ports in the the S7 and S7 Edge was to keep their compatibility with the Samsung Gear VR, partly. While this could be a small move, it shows that the company is ready to embrace USB-C type of connectors.

Samsung Gear VR new version did not receive much major changes. It is expected to be announced alongside Samsung's new flagship device, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. The Galaxy Note 7 is Samsung's latest device in its line of stylus-equipped smartphones, which carries the same 518ppi Super AMOLED screen found in the Note 5 and the same processor found in the S7 and S7 Edge, The Verge reported. Here is a Samsung Gear VR review below.
