The mobile phone network company - HTC, is launching the Viveport worldwide this fall. Viveport is an alternative to the Steam catalog of Vive virtual reality experiences.

HTC's virtual reality (VR) app store will focus more on learning and productivity than games or entertainment, based on the report of Tech News Today.

In HTC's blog post, the company claimed that Viveport will have a distinctive attribute of content across exciting, edutainment, social media, new categories for VR-like information, news, sports, health, 360-degree video as well as travel and shopping.

The blog also stated that the Vive headset will give the necessary opportunity for users to access SteamVR content, which makes it an appealing to the senses of the gaming community.

The VR app store of HTC is supposed to be a more general-interest alternative compared to the more gaming-focused Steam, and it will be up for grabs across multiple platforms such as desktop a mobile app, as well as an in-VR catalog connected to Vive Home and a virtual environment created by the mobile phone network company, according to The Verge.

HTC Vive senior vice president Rikard Stelber, stated that they believe virtual reality is going to change the world, and Viveport will aid to make it easier to find certain categories of virtual reality that have broad appeal, just like shopping, creative tools and educational experiences.

Furthermore, HTC's Viveport is set to support a variety of monetization options for developers such as in-app purchases, subscriptions and pay-to-download apps. The phone network company will also take 30 percent of those profits, which is a standard share for any major app store, Techno Buffalo reported.

HTC CEO Cher Wang stated that their mission is to unleash human imagination from the limitations of reality and Viveport will be an essential foundation in democratizing access to the world's most diverse selection of immersive experiences.
