The sequel of "Pacific Rim," which is dubbed as "Pacific Rim: Maelstrom," will not feature the return of the English actor Charlie Hunnam.

Hunnam, who portrayed Raleigh Becket in the original film, is said to drop the movie out due to scheduling conflicts. The sequel is currently set to star the British actor John Boyega and the American model, Scott Eastwood, according to Econo Times.

Hunnam, the Jaeger pilot Becket, stated that there was definitely an incarnation of the film sequel that involved him, but there was a changing of ownership, of the studio itself. The actor thought that because Legendary partnered up with a Chinese company and the movie was so successful there, there was a real agenda to start the follow up movie into production as soon as possible.

But, the actor was already booked up for a significant period of the time they were going to need, Superherohype reported.

During Hunnam's previous interview with Yahoo, the actor asserted that he was very excited for "Pacific Rim 2" despite of the fact being unavailable. Hunnam claimed that he read an early draft of what the production are doing.

Hunnam also said that the production has a very definite schedule that they have to start filming due to politics and business surrounding filmmaking.

However, director Guillermo del Toro and screenwriter Jon Spaihts were supposed to on board "Pacific Rim 2," but the two declined the project. Director Del Toro dropped out the sequel in favor of his forthcoming fantasy drama "The Shape of Water."

And without Hunnam, that could mean that two actors will lead the cast, Rinko Kikuchi as Mako and the recently announced Boyega will portray the son of Idris Elba's character - Stacker Pentecost, according to HitFix.

It has been said that more cast of the follow up film will be added soon.

"Pacific Rim: Maelstrom" will smash up theaters on February 2018.
