Cincinnati Bengals' cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones was arrested Monday night for allegedly assaulting a woman outside bar downtown, the Associated Press reported.

He was released on his own recognizance Monday and is scheduled for an arraignment on a misdemeanor assault charge Tuesday afternoon.

"Just got arrested for protecting myself, I will not let this break me or change what I have work so hard for," he tweeted Monday night.

A surveillance tape has hit the Internet and it shows a woman extending her arm towards a man's face and the man retaliating by extending his arm towards her's, at which point a liquid goes flying into the air. The figures on the tape are not distinguishable, but it fits Jones' account of the night.

Jones' agent, Peter Schaffer told the Cincinnati Enquirer two women wanted their picture taken with the football star. Schaffer said Jones denied their request because he's married.

"The last thing he wants is a picture with two women showing up on Twitter or Facebook or some other form of social media," Schaffer said. "Given what Adam has been through with the legal process, he has been incredibly positive and believes he will be vindicated."

Next, the women allegedly poured beer on him for saying no and, instinctively, Jones turned and hit one of them. One part of the video that is plain to see is a third person leading Jones away immediately following the altercation.

"He turns around and immediately slaps the person. He has no idea what's going on or who threw the bottle," Schaffer said. "His teammates have enough of this and they walk out."

Jones was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft and was arrested before he played his first professional game. He was arrested in July of 2005, months after the draft, for assault and felony vandalism in a nightclub altercation.

He has been involved in drug busts and has been arrested for assault, disorderly conduct and public intoxication, some on multiple occasions, since turning pro.

On April 10, 2007, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Jones for the entire year; his third pro season. The suspension came after an investigation tied him to a nightclub-shooting incident.

Jones has made his way back to the NFL and has been playing productively on the field and has stayed out of troubled off the field. In 2010, he signed with the Cincinnati Bengals and has not had any known incidents like the ones he is known for in his past.

The Bengals did not comment on the arrest and it is unknown how it will affect Jones' playing status for minicamp, which just started, or for pre-season games this summer.
