A Sony firmware update for A7 lenses has been announced by the Japanese firm to improve camera's focusing performance. The released firmware updates are for FE 35mm F/2.8, FE 35mm F/1.4, FE 70-200mm F/4, FE 24-70mm, FE 55mm F/1.8 and FE 28-70mm. The update aims to boost the manual focusing performance of the given lenses.

The Sony firmware update will not make the A7 camera series focus like an SLR, but it is reportedly a remarkable improvement. Some reports also say that it does not actually help in the autofocus arena at all; only in manual focusing.

There are also Sony firmware update for the A7r, A7rII, A7s, A7, A7II and A6000 cameras, Sony Alpha Rumors reported. It was reported that the update included phase-detection AF support, recording of lens name in the EXIF correction and AF in movie recording mode use with the SEL85F14GM.

The Sony firmware update for lenses go beyond upgrades to the camera hardware and sensors. The performance is expected to get better and better, which may help owners avoid the need to spend more money to buy brand new lenses. Users cite these constant updates and improvements the primary reasons why they decide to switch to a mirrorless system.

The focusing performance has been one of the biggest concerns for DSLR users who tried to switch to a mirrorless system like Sony's. Companies such as Panasonic, Fujifilm, Olympus and Sony, had growing gripes when it comes to AF performance, but the latest releases from all these companies have stepped up, raising the quality of mirrorless AF performance and bringing them more in line with their DSLR counterparts.

The Sony firmware update for the A7 lenses, according to Sony, will generally seek to improve the credibility of the focus position, making the manual focusing of the camera more accurate, Yahoo Finance reported. The information and details on where to download the firmware update package is available on Sony's support website.
