Nest is all set to bring video surveillance to the outdoors, taking the wraps off the Nest Cam Outdoor - the outdoor variant of its popular Wi-Fi-connected home surveillance camera, the Nest Cam.

The device packs an array of awe-inspiring features, for instance, it connects to Nest's mobile app to send alerts every time it sees someone trespassing.

The best appeal of this brand-new camera is that it's created for outdoor use.

Geared with IPX65-rated camera, the system is immune to snow and rain. In addition, it is continually powered with the help of a two-part AC adapter that encompass a more than 20-foot cable. But that's not all by any stretch of imagination.

The adapter is IPX67-rated as well, keeping problems such as water-based damage or shorting out at bay, especially if it gets caught in torrential rain.

The camera records without taking a break and uploads the footage to the cloud, enabling users to take a look back on any time span of interest. It shoots at an impressive 1080p with a 130-degree view, thus facilitating in keeping an eye on relevant details. The device neither needs to be plugged into an outlet nor does it feature on-board storage, meaning, a power outage or Wi-Fi drop could render it useless, Irish Examiner reported.

The Nest Cam Outdoor boasts a slew of specs similar to the Nest Cam, now dubbed as Nest Cam Indoor in the wake of the arrival of the new camera. It features the same array of eight infrared LEDs to light up the covered area while using its night-vision mode.

A magnetic base for mounting purpose is included for the camera, which comes with a microphone and speaker so that users can communicate with visitors remotely via the Nest app.

Quite a few updates to the Nest's subscription-based Nest Aware service and the aforementioned app have been unveiled alongside the release of the Nest Cam Outdoor, TechTimes reported.

The Wi-Fi-enabled Dropcam (now the Nest Cam Indoor) can be set up anywhere in the house. Owned by Google-parent company, Alphabet, Nest went by the same concept and designed a weatherproof piece of hardware that can be stuck outside home or small office.

Without-a-doubt, the Nest Cam Outdoor seems to be the most rational next step for a company that was earlier known as Dropcam, which was acquired by Nest a couple of years back.

The Nest Cam Outdoor is available to pre-order and is slated to hit the shelves sometime in the autumn.
