When Honors Music Institute (HMI) is around the corner it will be common to hear a variety of music drifting from the studios to rehearsal halls in Music Buildings I and II. They are from students who are preparing and intend to participate in the yearly HMI. Such event is a treat which most passers-by really enjoy. This year, the musical event will happen form July 17 until July 23.

During the HMI, classes, concerts and rehearsals take place throughout the week, which culminates in three separate concerts on Saturday, July 23, Penn State News wrote. This 2016, the student pianists will be trained by Penn State faculty fellow Christopher Guzman. Meanwhile, Penn State Director of Choral Activities Christopher Kiver will conduct the Chamber Choir. And lastly, Dennis Glocke, Penn State's Director of Concert Bands, will conduct the Wind Ensemble.

The Honors Music Institute week comprises six performances. The musical event is all free and open to the public. All concerts and recitals will happen in the Esber Recital Hall of the School of Music.

Below are the schedule of festivities for Honors Music Institute festivities.

The Honors Music Institute was directed by Jayne Glocke. It started as a summer music camp in 1997 and through the years has evolved into a prestigious occasion for high school musicians. Formerly called Summer Music at Penn State, HIM was open to all and confined options in band, choir, jazz band and piano. Last 2013, to address participants' wish for a suitably challenging experience, the program was refurbished and given a new name - the Honors Music Institute. HMI Applicants must pass a YouTube video audition. Their piece will be evaluated by the institute's faculty, mostly are from School of Music faculty, Penn State News added.
