NetherRealm Studios' "Injustice 2" is set to add more characters from the books, the classic "The Killing Joke" and "Flashpoint" from 2011, which Creative Director Ed Boon hinted. The creative director slyly plays down a "Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe 2" release.

NetherRealm Studios is expected to make the big announcement at the incoming San Diego Comic-Con this month, Event Hubs reported.

Boon had revealed that the new installment will feature two new characters, and that the game studios are aiming to add more to the roster in the near future.

The creative director hinted that the game's new characters are heavily influenced by "The Killing Joke," and "Flashpoint" books. Boon stated that the two new characters will be unveiled during NetherRealm Studios' panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, according to Movie News Guide.

Boon will frontline the NRS panel at the convention, along with George Newbern, whom of which voiced Superman; Laura Bailey, who lent her voice to Supergirl; Tom Taylor, who wrote "Injustice: Gods Among Us;" and Phil LaMarr, who voiced Aquaman.

There are reportedly more surprise guests lined up to accompany the team at the panel on June 22.

The game studios are also expected to treat its fans with a gameplay footage from "Injustice 2," along with its new features, besides the unveiling of two new characters.

Although the game's creative director confirmed the direction of which NetherRealm Studios has its sights on in terms of characters, Boon did add that cross-over characters from outside the DC Universe are also highly likely to be featured in future release, ComicBook reported.

Boon neither confirmed nor denied that the cross-over characters would come with a DLC or within the initial release.

In other news, a "Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe" sequel seems to be highly unlikely as Boon seemingly played down the possibility.

The creative director stated that the game studios are currently treating each game separately, and that the workflow seems to be working so there is no reason to mix things up, for now.
