Looks like a good news for avid Galaxy fans as Samsung has officially announced that it will unveil the much-awaited Galaxy Note 7 on August 2. The South Korean tech firm also opened up about its decision to skim over the Galaxy Note 6 name.

Leaked details revolving around the follow-up to last year's Galaxy Note 5 sparked great haste in June, when it was divulged that Samsung was only planning to debut a single curved screen model of its next-generation flagship phablet and that device would leave out the Galaxy Note 6 name in favor of Galaxy Note 7, TechTimes reported.

Rumor mills swirled a slew of speculations hinting that Samsung plans to unveil the Galaxy Note 7 at an Unpacked event scheduled for August 2.

Finally putting a lid on all the speculations doing rounds, Samsung has officially announced it will conduct an Unpacked event on August 2 to unwrap the Galaxy Note 7.

The company also divulged its plan behind skimming over the Galaxy Note 6 name in favor of Galaxy Note 7.

Why It's Called Galaxy Note7 instead of Galaxy Note6?

Opening up about the reason why "it's called Galaxy Note 7 instead of Galaxy Note 6," a post on Samsung Newsroom explains there are a couple of reasons behind the company's rather unconventional decision.

First, the Galaxy Note 7 name complements Samsung's Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, and thus brings the company's product portfolio together.

Second, the Galaxy Note 7 will curb any sort of confusion as far as the latest mobile technology from Samsung is concerned, and offer full alignment with Galaxy S smartphone.

The Galaxy Note 7 boasts a 5.7-inch Quad HD dual curved edge AMOLED display paired with augmented S Pen features. The imminent device will either be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon or Exynos processor, based on region.

Contrary to a slew of earlier reports that hinted Samsung was planning to launch the Galaxy Note 7 packed with 6 GB of RAM, a recent benchmark of Verizon's Galaxy Note 7 confirms it will probably include 4 GB of RAM. In addition, it is expected to feature an iris scanner for added security, waterproof design and a mammoth 3,600 mAh battery.

The Note 7 will reportedly run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow coupled with an updated version of Samsung's TouchWiz UI. Strong rumors doing rounds have also hinted that the Note 7 will boast a new and improved S Pen stylus that will make optimum use of the phablet's curved display.

The South Korean tech giant intends to build five million Galaxy Note 7 smartphones in time for its scheduled August release, which can happen shortly after August 2 launch.
