As the Republican National Convention is fast approaching on July 18, the long-awaited vice president announcement of Donald Trump is getting closer.

There are reports that the top of the VP shortlist of the Republican front-runner Trump are former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. Other names include Indiana Governor Mike Pence, Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions and Tennessee Senator Bob Corker.

The intense speculation around the potential running mate of the presidential candidate speaks to the high quality Vice Presidential picks have had in previous election years.

As the vice presidential picks serve as a unifying force for a formally constituted political group after a divisive contest for the nomination - in which Trump is likely taking into consideration as he tries to seek the favor of establishment Republicans onto his side, based on the report of CS Monitor.

The professor of history and public affairs at Princeton University - Julian Zelizer, wrote for CNN that the selection of a vice presidential can help make up for some of the problems and concerns that voters have about a political candidate.

It is very essential in Trump's case, given that his candidacy is unusual and unpredictable.

However, Trump stated on Monday that he will decide on his vice presidential pick by the end of the week. Trump said that he has five people on his mind, which includes a general (retired Lt. General Michael T. Flynn).

Trump added that he will make his mind up over the next three to four days. And in his mind, Trump has a vice presidential candidate that would be really good, according to The Washington Post.

In addition, amid the VP speculation, Gov. Pence will introduce Trump at the Republican presidential candidate's rally on Tuesday in Westfield. A presidential candidate's rally in which it is some sort of an audition for the Indiana governor, Indy Star reported.
