Although,  the rumor mills have not ceased swirling speculations around the looming iPhone and MacBook Pro, the side of the MacBook Air 2016 has been comparatively quite. Could this be an indication that the time-honored thin entry in the MacBook line up will not even see light of the day?

In the wake of Apple turning its focus on the 13-inch and 15-inch models, the 11-inch model of the MacBook Air 2016 may be headed for the chopping block, according to a Mac Otakara, a Japanese website that covers Apple related news.

The aforementioned 13- and 15-inch models could be an adaption to the 12-inch MacBook, which is not only thinner but also lighter as compared to the 11-inch MacBook Air. Nevertheless, the 12-inch Macbook is less powerful.

The upcoming lineup of MacBook Air 2016 and MacBook Pro 2016 will reportedly boast USB Type-C ports, along with Thunderbolt 3. Moreover, there is a possibility that classic USB Type A ports and the traditional Thunderbolt and MagSafe ports will be ousted from the MacBook Air 2016.

Besides this set of rumors, several online tech publications are promoting the idea that the Cupertino-based tech giant may actually be considering to entirely discontinue the production of the MacBook Air 2016.

If rumors doing rounds are anything to go by, Apple is on the verge of ending the Air brand entirely and eliminating iPad Air and MacBook Air 2016 offerings from the existing lineup.

According to tech blogger, Jack March (via JackGMarch), Apple has overhauled the corporate image of the iPad Air by rebranding it into the iPad Pro (available in 12-inch and 9.7-inch screen sizes), with a slew of added features at the same specifications. The MacBook Air, on the other hand may be replaced by MacBook Pros that are comparatively thinner, iPad Pros, or just revamped MacBooks.

Besides, there have hardly been any updates regarding the MacBook Air 2016, contrary to an array of other devices which have gotten ample leaks and rumors from several reliable sources.

Apple has neither confirmed nor denied these speculations yet, thus it is recommended to take these rumors with a grain of salt until the Cupertino-based tech firm divulges its plan regarding the future of MacBook Air 2016.
