Older generation of Eye-Fi will be faced out and cannot be used anymore.

Some Photographers are outraged by the latest announcement made by Eye-Fi. The Eye-Fi cards will be useless in a few months. The Eye-Fi cards X1 and X2 will have its 'End of Life' on 16 September 2016.

Eye-Fi phased out the card product line, X2, in 2012. Eye-Fi explained this announcement in an email and FAQ in their website. The company said that all X@ cards were already sold in all United States authorized channels in March 2015. So, X2 cards purchased later than the said date was purchased from an unauthorized seller, Petapixel reported.

After the already-set 'End of Life' which is on the 16th of September, users will not be able to create an account in Eye-Fi Center. The account is required by X1 and X2 Eye-Fi cards.

However, there are functions that will be left for the users after the set date. These features include the Direct Mode and the Selective Transfer. This features must be set early (before September 16) in order to be functional. The Relayed Transfer, however, will not be functional anymore. Also, all Eye-Fi software will not be supported or updated. There is no assurance, therefore, that they will continue to function.

This event is unusual and had their customers enraged by the news. One customer even published an open letter saying that he was furious because the company had the 'gall' to produce and sell out cards that will be obsolete in just a matter of years.

Eye-Fi explained that the technologies used in these cards are old and the encryptions are no longer safe. The photographer will be offered their newer products which will be using newer technologies. Furthermore, Eye-Fi offers 205 discount to photographers who want to shift from the old card to a newer one, The Verge reported.
