Looks like a good news for those eyeing a Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge but didn't want to go for a smartphone that is tied to a specific carrier as the South Korean tech firm will be selling unlocked variant of its flagship Galaxy S7 smartphones in the United States.

This is definitely a big move on part of Samsung and a good news for smartphone users as they can now buy either the Samsung Galaxy S7 or the Galaxy S7 Edge and switch carriers without breaking a sweat.

Two-year service contracts are rare nowadays, however consumers are now staggered with two-year installment plans which restricts them from taking their phones to a rival carrier until it's paid off, NDTV Gadgets reported.

Unlocked phones, on the other hand, do not come with such restrictions and are free of carrier-specific apps for tasks such as messaging, video et cetera.

On Thursday, June 30, Samsung launched unlocked variants of Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge in the US, which consumers can buy without getting stuck into a two-year carrier contract.

The aforementioned unlocked variants will work perfectly well on most CDMA and GSM networks such as US Cellular, Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T. Besides, consumers can leave behind their worry about carrier bloatware that come installed with the phone, PC Mag reported.

That said, buying these unlocked models may burn a hole in consumer's pocket as the Samsung Galaxy S7 is available for $669.99 while the unlocked Galaxy S7 Edge is priced at $769.99. Both the smartphones are up for grabs on Target.com, Sam's Club, eBay, Best Buy, and Amazon.

The prices are comparatively expensive than Sprint but cheaper than T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon.

The unlocked variants boast the same design, specs and features as the original Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge that debuted earlier this year.
