Spotify has reached 100 million users but only 30 million of that are paying subscriber; Apple Music has half of that paying subscribers.

The music streaming application, Spotify, has reached a big milestone by reaching 100 million total users. This was 25 million more users compared to their last report. However, only 30 per cent of these 100 million users are actually paying subscribers

Apple Music, on the other hand, offers a free trial up for three months then supports paid subscriptions only after the free trial has expired. Apple Music now has 15 million paid subscribers, as per announced by Eddy Cue during the WWDC. However, it is still way behind Spotify's numbers. But the gap is now getting narrower, 9to5Mac reported.

Apple Music has been growing throughout the year. This February 2016, Apple Music reached 11 million paid users, then grew to 13 million in April, and hit the 15 million mark in June 2016. The Apple Music is set for more improvements  in iOS10 and set to add iTunes 12.5 in macOS Sierra.

Spotify reached the 100 million users by matching the offers made by Apple Music. Spotify offered 50% discount to all qualified student users, which is now at $4.99 per month. The same offer was offered by Apple Music last month. Also, Spotify matched the $14.99-per-month offer by Apple Music for family access for up to six members.

Spotify was launched in October 2008 in Europe. Then the company expanded to the United States in 2011 which makes it the world's most popular music streaming service. Apple Music, however, which is new in the field of music streaming service, is now closing the gap, Macrumors reported.

Even though Apple Music' user base is just half as big as Spotify's, Apple wants to target 100 million paid subscriber with its services.

Both streaming services, Spotify and Apple Music, are available on Android, iOS, CarPlay, and macOS. Meanwhile, reports surfaced that Amazon will be joining the music subscription party.
