Hampton University (HU) Department of Athletics has extended the women's basketball coach, David Six's, contract for another five years through the 2018-19 season.

He has led the team to four consecutive NCAA tournament berths.

"I am extremely excited about the opportunity to lead the Lady Pirates for five more years," Six said. "My journey started here at Hampton; it has been rewarding and I have been blessed. However, there still remains some unfinished business and I look forward to the challenge."

Six has posted 99-30 in four years at HU, 58-6 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play and his teams won all four MEAC tournament titles.

The Lady Pirates are tied with Howard for securing the most number of MEAC titles in the history of the conference. In addition, HU women's team became the fifth women's team in MEAC history to be unbeaten (16-0) in the 2012-13 season; that earned Six his second Coach of the Year award.

Plus, they finished the last season with 28-6, a Division I record for most wins in a season.

President Dr. William R. Harvey said that the university is elated to continue its relationship with such a talented coach whose team members not only perform well in the basketball court but in the classroom as well.

In 1995, Hampton joined the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and has since won dozens of MEAC titles in football, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's track and men's and women's tennis.

In March 2001, the men's basketball team made NCAA Tournament history, becoming only the fourth 15th-seeded team to defeat a 2nd-seeded team, Iowa State, 58-57 .

This victory had made it into the SportsCenter's Top 10 NCAA tournament upsets.
