The new study clearly shows the change in demographics between US men and women obesity problem. US  women have to lose weight to maintain the balance.

An analysis of the latest government statistics shows a staggering 40 percent of US women now meet the criteria for being obese. This means that their body mass index (BMI) is 30 and above. As a result, a 5-foot-9-inch woman would weigh 203 pounds or higher. The demographics published Tuesday at JAMA journal were based on data gathered in 2013 and 2014 from a national representative sample of 2,638 adult men in average age of 47 years and 2,817 women in an average age of 48 years.

A follow up study in the same journal also found a slight increase in obese teenagers during those same years.

JAMA editors Howard Bauchner and Jody Zylke and wrote an editorial to accompany the study. It said that lots of research and attention have been directed toward treating obesity through drugs and procedures which, apparently, would not solve the problem, Sacramento Bee reported..

They said that the emphasis must be on prevention, regardless of evidence that school- and community-based preventive programs and educational campaigns by local governments and professional organizations have not been very successful, SB added. Accordingly, men and kids must be healthy  as well as women should lose weight.

Stated below are the major findings of the study:

â–ª For men, recent smokers were more prone to obesity. This association has not been seen in women.

â–ª US Women having an education further than high school were notably less likely to be obese. They could have been more eager to lose weight.

â–ª US children from age 2 to 19, there 17 percent prevalence of obesity in 2011 to 2014.

â–ª In a 25-year course, there has been a positive shift in the very youngest Americans, through efforts like Michelle Obama's "Let's Move!" campaign to get kids moving and healthier. The obesity prevalence is decreasing among those ages 2 to 5 and leveling off in children ages 6 to 10.

â–ª Unfortunately, there is a significant increas among adolescents ages 12 to 19.
