Thirteen miles from Borrego Springs was reportedly hit by a massive magnitude 5.2 earthquake Friday morning, according to the US Geological Survey. The Southern California earthquake occurred at 1:04 a.m. Pacific time at a depth of -0.6 miles.

The epicenter was 16 miles from La Quinta, 19 miles from Palm Desert, and 20 miles from Rancho Mirage, USGS said. There have been several aftershocks, including a magnitude 3.3 shake 13 miles from Anza, Southern California at 1:46 a.m. at a depth of 6.8 miles. Anza is in southern Riverside County, LA Times reported.

Seismologist Lucy Jones's provided a blow by blow reports about dozens of aftershocks on her Twitter feed . She tweeted that the Friday morning quake was near the San Jacinto fault which is historically the most active fault in Southern California area.

Borrego Springs is a community of more than 3,000 people in eastern San Diego County, near the Imperial County line. Apparently, the quake was felt throughout the Southland and has left slight impact top the households in the area. According to a Downey woman who called KNX 1070, the said earthquake strucked with a soft roll at first, then later hit again for the second time in stronger jolt. Aother caller from Costa Mesa described it as a "back and forth" sensation, LA Times added.

As of 1:30 am, there were no reports of damage and incident of death which is somehow considerably good considering the impact of an earthquake. In the past 10 days, there have been two incidents of earthquakes at the magnitude 3.0 or greater at centered nearby.
