Looks like a good news for those who bought the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 when it debuted last year as the Chinese smartphone maker is finally rolling out Android 6.0 Marshmallow for the unlocked Idol 3.

Alcatel took the wraps off two smartphones under the Idol 3 brand in March, however the two devices had nothing in common. The company introduced the Idol 3 (5.5") and Idol 3 (4.7") models, which lacked resemblance from each other on several key aspects.

Both the aforementioned devices debuted running Android 5.0.2 concealed by a mildly themed Alcatel skin, and despite their average specs, the devices run the OS without any issue. The Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 (5.5") packs more pixels that facilitates smooth screen movement, however benchmarks higher. Alcatel via its official Twitter handle recently announced that its rolling out the update for both unlocked smartphones in order to adorn the devices with 6.0 Marshmallow.

This update brings in a slew of awe-inspiring enhancements such as the new Doze and App Standby technologies by Google that saves battery power by putting certain device features out of action when the device is idle and it also stops rarely-used apps from running in the background, AndroidHeadlines reported.

Taking into consideration that majority of phones with Marshmallow updates are starting at Android 5.1, Alcatel has indeed taken a big leap by jumping from Android 5.0 to Android 6.0. This move brings in a slew of security patches, along with granular permissions, better memory management, the aforementioned Google Now on Tap and a lot more.

The new software is slated to first roll out on units that have been purchased in the United States in unlocked mode, including the unlocked Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3. There's currently no details regarding when Google's Android M will release in other regions, GSMArena reported.

Several Reddit users who have installed the Marshmallow update have reported that the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 is operating much smoother after the update - and that's hardly surprising considering that this update packs the latest (June) security patches.
